A 6 lesson plan initially written for Year 6 but could easily be used for younger year groups.

The lessons explore the four main sections of an orchestra (percussion, strings, brass and woodwind), with the children encouraged to do a lot of active listening.

Music links are provided, including a link to a free worksheet based on Benjamin Britten’s ‘Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’.

There are two PowerPoints that I used for the lessons - these were purchased from Twinkl and are still available. However, pictures of different instruments and short sound clips would work just as well (both can easily be found online) - I’ve included links to musical clips so those provided on the PowerPoints are not strictly necessary.
