This is a reasoning activity to assess knowledge of number bonds once learned with numicon. The children look at the row of three and decide which one does NOT make ten. They reason why, such as 'because it makes 11', or 'because I know that 6 and 7 are not a pair to ten'.

This resource requires children to use either bonds to 20 or simple number patterns/strategies to work out the problems. E.g. 'The chickens have laid 20 eggs between them. How many could they have laid each?&' Children are required to come up with as many solutions as possible.
